Welcome to Taz Racing

Hi,

My name is Ryan Smith. I am 16 years old and I’m an expert amateur motocross racer. This is my first year racing in the Expert class, having moved up from ‘B’ class in August after Loretta Lynn’s Amateur National Championship, where I placed 7th in the 250 B Stock Class. Since then, I have been racing AMA Pro/Am Eastern Region races in Districts 7 and 13 in order to gain experience and further increase my knowledge of racing. My ambition is to follow my family’s legacy and become a professional motorcycle racer. I am the grandson of Bob Bailey, a flat-tracker and road racer who, along with his brother, national motocross champion Gary “The Professor” Bailey, were pioneers in national motorcycle racing. My cousin, David Bailey, was a multi-time National Champion in the 250 & 500 classes. I believe I have the combination of natural ability, intelligence, training and drive that it takes to be a champion.

In addition to my racing, I am also very committed to continuing my education. Before leaving the public school system to begin home and online schooling in order to accommodate my racing schedule, I was inducted into the National Honor Society of the United States. I felt that it was important to begin home schooling, which offered the flexibility necessary for my training/racing schedule, in order to protect my 3.5 grade point average.

In addition to the competitive know-how that racing has taught me, family members who preceded me in motorcycle racing have taught me the importance of good sportsmanship and working as a member of a team. Maintaining a sense of teamwork is as important to winning as maintaining and tuning my bike. Even with all of the work that it takes to be a winner, I’m still having a blast!

If you’re wondering about the name Taz Racing, my friends and family gave me the nickname, Taz, because of what they call my boundless energy. I guess I have been blessed with a combination of the drive and determination to be a racing champion, and the energy to pull it off.

I want to thank the companies that have believed in me and shown their support by sponsoring me, even at this early stage of my career. They include: Arai Helmets, FMF, Full Travel Innovations, Gary Bailey MX School, Liquid Performance, Piedmont Motorsports, Scott USA and Leech & Hicks Insurance. I hope to keep adding new sponsors as I continue to advance my racing career.

Thank you for stopping by my web site and looking around. I will try to keep my site as up-to-date as possible with the latest news, my racing schedule, and new racing photos.
